| It depends on many factors really. How long are the straights? Is there a slow hairpin. You need to factor in the peak power figures ,torque characteristics and rev limits of the motor and your riding style .Also the weather and profile of the rear tyre can alter things.Don`t go asking around the paddock or spinning someones backwheel to "see what they are running". You really have too figure it out for yourself. On a production bike gearbox set up ,there is always a compromise to be made, usually on how you tackle the slower corners and whats the best gear through the faster sweepers, so you either end up running the first five gears or the last five (i.e 1st to 5th , or 2nd to sixth). If your bike is considered to be undergeared then you`ll be hitting an early rev limit along the straights ,reving past peak power and actually losing speed in the process. You may also find yourself running out of drive exiting some turns ,up setting the suspension, by short shifting still cranked over etc. Over gearing the bike is just as bad causing it to bog down on the exit of turns and not pull the revs in top............... | | |
